NSFW inside - Also W210 Benz question
OK - Here is my offering for an answer to a quick question on my Benz HVAC codes.
Read the HVAC codes and got :
B1230 - Evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6)
B1231 - ECT sensor (B11/4)
B1234 - Sun sensor (B32)
B1416 - Coolant circulation pump (M13)
B1459 - Series interface (K2) connection to instrument cluster (A1)
Am I up against a whole lot of work or could most of these get thrown by low refrigerant pressure or not matter much to the operation of the system. I havent thrown a gauge on it yet, it has some pressure but not the usual output when you put something in the charge port. Hoping I can throw the juice to it and it will be good. It was blowing ok this weekend and now is intermittent. Should I just erase them and see what the deal is over the next few days?

I do seem to remember something iffy on the coolant pumps - I know they give up on MINIs, but I don't remember if they're a big failure item on the Benz. I wouldn't expect them as an error code to get thrown by low refrigerant, though. It's a wear item, broadly, so I'd not be surprised. Keep a weather eye for the dual-zone coolant valve to fail, too, because that happens.
Evap temp sensor - probably could be thrown by something else in the control circuit being bad, but probably not low refrigerant.
ECT sensor, sun sensor: again - for them to be gremlin at the same time as the evap temp sensor might mean something else, but I wouldn't expect that something else to be low refrigerant. Sensors typically derp out based on not having the right impedance, but anything that affects your voltage at the control unit could lead to "wrong" impedance checks. That being said, sensors do go bad and not just control units. We've had a rash of failures in both mid-dash sensor and climate control unit in our '85 300D, IIRC, though neither in the W124s, just vacuum servo failures.
"Reading a bit low" - that reminds me, we recharged KusabiSensei's E300D system, and I seem to recall it being a little squirrely in that respect. Sadly, I don't remember much of the details, but it's hard to get charged if it's otherwise not working quite right.
That gang connecter error - I know bupkis about that. Maybe with all these things combined, you've had water in your dash trash some connections, or you've got a bad connection to your dash and climate control?

yeah the E34 BMW's had notoriously bad circulation pumps. I think I have 4 corpses of them at home. I think the circulation pump is only used for the afterrun heat "rest" mode. Yeah I will dig a bit deeper on it. At least it has some pressure in there residual.

The pumps are probably made by Bosch for both Benz and BMW, so there's certainly a possibility of family resemblance.

I am going to clear codes and hope half of these were one time only codes over the past 50K or so miles since the codes were probably pulled last

are one side of the vents cooler than the other?

currently no. I just went and cleared codes and warmed it up, no a/c or compressor kick in, so I cant vouch for the temp difference, they seem even just uncooled. No codes have returned yet

o ok welp,
B1459, don't worry about it. Pretty much every car has that code lol
B1234, don't worry about it. Same on Lexus but they call in a solar sensor.
B1231 and B1416 are for that goofy aux pump thing. We don't really worry about them much in Texas but those things do fail commonly.
Evap Temp Sensors are a common item that we replace here. I would....
Check live data while running to check for inconsistent value or off values.
or
Do an A/C service and clear codes
If you do need to do the Evap sensor, it is located near the pedals on the left side of the EVAP case. It is a 3 pin connector and the sensor is a odd hook shape.
sorry for the late response but stupid Lotus day today and it is impossible to do much lol.

dude no worries, I figured whenever you can get to it, awesome. This aint a damn car mechanics forum anyhow!

yeah I know but unlike most forums, I can give you dealer level advice and pricing instead of "spray WD40 on it!" lol :]

very true. My shop specialized in all Benz pre -95 so I am a little out of my element. This is why I asked knowing you own one and service them! Thanks Uly!
